Eggs N Things Review

Dallas Nagata | Monday, May 11th, 2009.

There’s not many breakfast restaurants that require a waiting list just to get a buzzer, but the huge crowd that is often waiting below the white-railed porch of the old-fashioned building on Saratoga Road indicates the extraordinary popularity of this Waikiki breakfast staple. Eggs N Things has recently re-opened at their new location just in time to celebrate their 35th anniversary of serving exceptional omelettes, pancakes, waffles, and crepes.

On this particular Monday morning, we decided to wait until lunchtime to avoid the crowds, and still had to wait about ten minutes before we could get to our table. The menus are lacquered onto wooden boards, offering a single page of breakfast basics, including eggs, omelettes, pancakes, crepes, and waffles, while the board featuring the daily specials offers island fish, loco mocos, and cherry crepes.

After perusing the menu, our table decided on blueberry pancakes, coconut waffles with a side of potatoes, and a mushroom bacon omelette, with coffee all around. The food took less than ten minutes to arrive, accompanied by the trio of maple, guava, and coconut syrups.

Blueberry pancake lovers will be delighted to know that the pancakes not only have a good amount of blueberries cooked into the pancake, they are also topped with blueberries and a dusting of powdered sugar. The coconut waffles, freshly made, are likewise topped with a layer of shredded coconut and powdered sugar. Both are the size of the large plates they are served on, so the meal should satisfy most appetites. The mushroom and bacon omelette is simple and hearty, served with a side of rice or potatoes.

Though many of the breakfast foods at Eggs N Things seem to be typical breakfast fare, the quality is amazing, and the many loyal customers can attest to that fact. The prices are decent, running at about $10 a plate, but the amount of food served is more than enough for most people. Eggs N Things will also resume its late-night hours during the next couple of months, for those night owls who crave scrambled eggs at 3 in the morning. The downstairs store even offers house pancake mixes and syrups to take home with you!

Eggs N Things is currently located at 343 Saratoga Road, Waikiki.

Their current hours are 6:00am-2:00pm, and 5:00pm to 10:00pm daily.
